Planning say no to house extension in Coastal National Park

Officers from the Planning Department had already turned down the scheme at Anderida, near La Pulente, on the grounds that the development would not conform to the Island Plan.

Applicants Mr and Mrs Goodbody subsequently requested that the committee review the plans.

However, in a virtual planning yesterday members decided unanimously that the impact on the sensitive area could not be justified.

One of those who commented, Constable Philip Le Sueur, said: ‘The impact on landscape and the coastal national park, in particular, far outweighs the benefits to the property and I am afraid I will maintain the department’s view and refuse.’

Deputies Kirsten Morel, Rowland Huelin, Lindsay Ash and Russell Labey also objected to the scheme.

Due to a technical issue, the architect behind the plans, Justin Gallaher from Gallaher architects, missed his chance to comment on the application, but planning committee chairman Deputy Russell Labey said this was unlikely to have made any difference.

Addressing Mr Gallaher, Deputy Labey said: ‘The committee, you can see, is quite conclusive with everyone unanimously voting against this application.

‘The only consolation I can offer is it strikes me you would not have been able to persuade the committee otherwise.’
