Cineworld will not reopen before July

Theatres and cinemas are on the list of businesses allowed to reopen when the Island moves to Level 2 of the government’s safe exit from lockdown strategy on 12 June.

However, Cineworld has confirmed it will be following guidance from its UK branches and the UK government.

A Cineworld spokesman said: ‘Subject to the lifting of government restrictions and confirmation of the schedule for film releases, Cineworld anticipates the reopening of all of its cinemas in July.’ The company, which has 787 venues globally, said reopening cinemas would go hand-in-hand with physical distancing and hygiene rules.

Like many other businesses, Jersey’s only cinema has had to close since the lockdown restrictions were enforced earlier this year.

Firms allowed to reopen their doors on 12 June include hairdressers, fitness facilities, indoor cafés and restaurants, libraries, theatres, concert venues, community centres, youth centres, places of worship, museums, arcades and bowling alleys.
