The German Shepherd, who has joined after undergoing seven and a half weeks’ training in the UK, will work with dog handler PC Dave Bisson.

Pippa is replacing general-purpose dog Turbo who retired earlier this year after six and a half years’ service. She will work alongside the force’s other dogs, Jack and Leo.

Fourteen-month old Pippa comes from a litter of eight who have all been trained as police dogs. Her brother was on the same course in the UK.

PC Bisson and Pippa trained together at a Surrey Police training camp and returned to the Island before travel restrictions were imposed.

PC Bisson said: ‘Pippa took to her training really well and passed her assessment with flying colours.

‘She’s settled into life at home very quickly and she gets on well with all
my other dogs, even Turbo, who, up until now, had never really been interested in playing with other dogs. It’s really nice to see.’

Pippa can be used for a variety of tasks including tracking, public-order incidents, searches, chasing and detaining.
