The worst of the winds are due to hit on Sunday but are expected to reduce the following day.

Jersey Met have issued a red weather warning – the highest possible level – with the wind and high tides expected to send waves crashing over the sea wall on the south and east coast. High tide is at 6.52pm on Sunday and 7.09am on Monday morning with Islanders being warned about possible flooding.

Meanwhile, Jersey Zoo was closed on Sunday due to the winds.

The UK Met Office issued weather warnings for the whole of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with forecasts of up to 80mph winds and heavy rain.
