John Lewis introduces £115 delivery charge for large items

Until recently those placing orders over £50 – including large items of furniture – were entitled to free delivery and Islanders could claim back the VAT once the items had arrived.

However, following the changes – which the company says are to bring it ‘in line with the market’ – any orders that require two people to deliver will cost £115.

VAT can still be reclaimed by calling customer services once an order has been received.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for John Lewis said: ‘Our far-reaching delivery service includes remote parts of the UK, such as offshore locations.

‘We have recently introduced charges for large items to these offshore areas. This change will affect very few customers and our new prices are competitive, bringing us in line with the market. For further details of the new prices, please visit johnlewis.com/customer-services/delivery-information/uk-delivery.’

The new charges also apply to Guernsey, while customers in the Isle of Man and some remote areas in Scotland, including the Shetland Islands, will be charged £80 per large order.

Free delivery is still available on smaller items over £50.
