The former St Brelade Constable said that he would like to serve in a ministerial role but wants to make sure that his talents are put to their best use, after coming fifth in the poll with 12,114 votes. He is believed to be the first Constable to successfully make the move to the Senatorial benches.
The Senator-elect paid tribute to his campaign team but said that the ‘real job’ started now.
‘I’m obviously very pleased – it has been a tough campaign.
‘I said before that I would be happy just to get in the top eight,’ he said.
‘This is just the start of the job – the hard bit is coming now and that is representing the public and doing what it says in my manifesto.’
He added: ‘The public will be able to look at my manifesto and in four years be able to see if I have done the things that I have promised.
‘I kept my manifesto quite simple and didn’t try to be too clever with it and what is in it is achievable.’
The Senator-elect said that he could not say what ministerial role he would be interested in at this stage due to reforms of the existing departments being driven by States chief executive Charlie Parker.
‘I don’t know what the ministerial roles will be with the changes that the States chief executive is making, so it’s hard to say,’ he said.
‘But I do want a ministerial role. I have worked with pretty much everyone who has been elected tonight and I would like to think that I could work with any of them.’
