During the second day of the Royal Court trial of Rebekah Le Gal, transcripts of the 39-year-old’s second police interview were read out.

Mrs Le Gal denies one count of causing death by dangerous driving.

Clinton Pringle, who was in the Island on holiday with his mother Stacey, died in Southampton Hospital three days after the collision in Tunnell Street.

During one exchange with detectives, Mrs Le Gal said: ‘I know I should not have text when I was in my car but it was a measured act.

‘I did it when I slowed right down. I was aware of my surroundings and then I put it right down.’

Her comments were made during an interview in September 2016.

When interviewed on the day of the collision – 27 June 2016 – the defendant did not mention using her phone.

The trial continues.

Full report in Tuesday’s JEP.
