The St Helier Roads Committee last month backed plans to impose the limit on roads including Val Plaisant, Great Union Road, Bath Street and Halkett Place.

Changes will be made subject to approval by Infrastructure Minister Eddie Noel.

Now, St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft, writing in the parish magazine the Town Crier, has said that despite some negative feedback on social media, he firmly believes it is the right move.

‘The problem of speeding traffic is one of the most common complaints raised with the parish’s elected representatives.

‘For homeowners, the fact that living in a 20 mph zone increases house values, just as living within a residents’ parking zone does, is a further indication that it’s a measure guaranteed to improve the quality of life of St Helier residents,’ he said.
