Crews were sent out after receiving multiple calls about the blaze on land between the Railway Walk and La Moye Golf Course at about 4 pm.

They quickly brought the fire under control. It destroyed an area of vegetation measuring 80m by 20m, but the crews said the area would have been much larger if the wind had been blowing from a different direction.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated.

In a statement, the Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘During these sustained periods of dry weather the risk of accidental open land fires increases significantly.

‘Jersey Fire and Rescue ask that members of the public be particularly careful when disposing of barbecues, having bonfires and disposing of cigarettes.’
