Last year Deputy Richard Rondel had his plans to convert the building into five self-catering units rejected after the States’ historic environment team, who maintain a watching brief over the Island’s listed properties, objected to the proposals to the site off Grande Route de St Jean and suggested that it should be scaled back.

The outbuilding carries a potential grade 3 listing, which means it could be viewed as a building of special public and heritage interest.

At the time, the historic environment team said that the proposed change of use of the building ‘may be acceptable in principle if the design can be amended to reduce the number of units, thereby reducing the large number of new openings and doors’.
