Jail for man who waved foot-long blade in the air

The defendant admitted affray and causing £1,000 worth of malicious damage to the bonnet of a black Vauxhall Tigra parked in Marett Road on 11 February.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that he was seen walking towards Marett Road while waving a ‘bill hook’ blade in the air. Outside Sunshine Gardens, he raised the hook at a woman driving a car, before brandishing it in front of a pedestrian.

The defendant who has a number of previous convictions, then went into a café and ordered a takeway. The member of staff asked him to remove the blade, because there was a small child on the premises. She later told police officers that the defendant ‘looked crazy’.

He said sorry to the woman and put the blade outside.
