The displays at St Martin and the Moulin de Lecq pub at Grève de Lecq were among the biggest and most spectacular in the Island, and dozens of other events were held.

Lester Richardson, chairman of the Gorey Fete and St Martin’s Bonfire Committee, said: ‘Things went perfectly and there was a very good crowd of people. The field and car park were both full, but it would be hard to say how many people exactly were there.

‘We support a number of the same charities every year, including St Martin’s Church and St John Ambulance, but the majority of our proceeds this year will be going to Family Nursing & Home Care.’
