Earlier this summer the department said it hoped Islanders would have the option of going paperless, by putting the planning application process online within the first few months of 2017.
Now ministers have approved a transfer of £171,370 to the Environment Department from the States ‘Restructuring Provision’ – a pot of money designed to fund initiatives that will bring about long-term savings for the Island’s administration.
Currently, planning applications arrive in hard copy, meaning staff either have to scan each document in order to process the paperwork, or transfer the application from CDs or data sticks to upload it to the department’s system.
