Members of the Island’s surfing community have welcomed this week’s official announcement that surfing will be included in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, saying that not only will it boost the sport generally, but that it will give Jersey surfers the chance to compete against the best in the world.
The sport was accepted by the 129th International Olympic Committee Session in Rio this week and joins karate, skateboarding, sports climbing and baseball as the latest additions to gain accreditation for the next Games.
