Man sent to jail after whisky-fuelled attack

Jose Diogo Teixeira Jardim, who has a history of violent offending, pursued his victim ‘with persistence and vigour’ before throwing him onto the bonnet of a car and repeatedly punching, kicking and kneeing him.

Witnesses, the court heard, reported seeing the victim covered in blood, and a subsequent medical examination identified that he had 24 separate injuries, many of which were to the face.

On Friday Jardim was jailed for two years and five months – two months more than the prosecution asked for.

The prosecution also recommended that the 23-year-old father, who has lived in Jersey since the age of 15, be deported. A decision on that recommendation was adjourned until further impact reports on his family are carried out.
