The warning comes after a latest incident in which the Fire and Rescue Service was called to a bunker in St Brelade’s Bay on Saturday.
A disposable barbecue had been carelessly discarded in the disused bunker, which was filled with burnable materials and which caused a large amount of smoke.
The advice is to wait until barbecues are cold before moving them, never put ashes in the bin – put them on bare garden soil instead, and where possible keep a bucket of water or sand nearby for emergencies.
