Lesley L’Enfant, who for the past 20 years has been human resources manager at Jersey charity Les Amis, has previously undertaken voluntary counselling roles, including as a bereavement support worker at Jersey Hospice and for a telephone helpline charity, and in her previous job also developed a bereavement training programme for employees.

A life-long animal lover, she has been mulling over the the idea of counselling for pet owners for several years and feels that now is a good time to put those ideas into action.

She has wanted to work with animals in some way since childhood – her current pets are four cats and a corn snake – but her career then moved into HR. Prior to joining Les Amis as a support worker, she had worked as a beauty consultant and to prepare for her new venture she has completed several online courses including a diploma in animal psychology and a certificate in pet bereavement, as well as a small-animal course at Highland College.

Mrs L’Enfant has found a small, quiet office on the Esplanade where people can feel at ease and is also offering to visit clients in their own homes.
