Students go on a journey of peace

The students, from Beaulieu Convent School and Jersey College for Girls, travelled to the University of Winchester to participate in the second annual PeaceJam UK Conference.

During the event, which was attended by 240 young people from across the UK and which had the theme ‘Overcoming oppression and building communities’, the girls had the chance to speak to Rigoberta Menchu Tum of Guatemala, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992 for her promotion of the rights of the indigenous Mayan people in her country.

The group also took part in a number of challenges and discussions and shared their experience of projects they had undertaken before the conference, including visits to Romania by students from Beaulieu to deliver humanitarian aid.
