Cruise line offer for brains behind Boaty

Royal Caribbean has called on former BBC Radio Jersey presenter James Hand to work his magic with a range of vessels after the title he suggested for a new UK research ship received thousands of public votes.

Shortly after proposing that a new, multi-million-pound Antarctic survey vessel be called Boaty McBoatface, Mr Hand’s suggestion proved far more popular than ideas such as RRS (Royal Research Ship) Endeavour, Shackleton or David Attenborough.

And now the former radio presenter has been invited to sail with Royal Caribbean on its newest and biggest vessel before working on names for various upcoming ships in the cruise company’s fleet.
