In November the States launched the Health Strategy, a blueprint for tackling mental health issues over the next five years.
Deputy Louise Doublet said: ‘In the new mental health survey it was identified that we need to do more in terms of prevention rather than providing just reactive services for mental health. Apart from the moral reasoning that we should give children the tools to be well, if we invest in children’s well-being, it will help them be more productive at school.’
The Deputy’s concern led her to submit a written question in the States last week asking Education Minister Rod Bryans what work was being undertaken in schools to prevent mental health issues and Deputy Bryans said that there were a wide range of systems in place to identify potential difficulties and prevent mental health issues arising.
