The roll mine – a French-made shell used by German forces to defend the northern shores from counter-invasion – had slipped down from headland by the Ronez loop road and come to rest on rocks at the foot of the cliffs.
It was found by a member of the public, who alerted the States police.
A 1 km exclusion zone was put in place out to sea and the Ronez loop road was closed during the operation.
