Hospital: Ministers accused of ‘steering’ public towards park

The Save People’s Park group, led by Christian May, has written to Health Minister Andrew Green claiming that information on the futurehospital.je website, which provides details on each of the potential sites, appears to encourage the public to back the development of the park for the new facility.

The letter lists a series of concerns that the group have that ministers and the Future Hospital team are showing bias towards the People’s Park site.

In the letter, the group say that:

  • The first image that appears on the futurehospital.je website is not random is always that of the proposed People’s Park development.
  • The proposed locations on the website are not in alphabetical order and have the People’s Park at the head of the list.
  • The website is coded to provide the image of the People’s Park development whenever a page is shared on social media.

The group also claim that development of the area would breach the Island Plan – the document which sets Jersey’s planning policy – and that this is not listed as a ‘negative’ against the park option. It is, however, listed against other options.
