The reptile captured the hearts of Islanders after he was washed up seriously ill on the beach at Grève d’Azette just over two weeks ago.

And after an online appeal raised more than £10,000 and plans were set in motion to have him flown back to warmer waters, Terri’s plight took an unexpected twist on Thursday when it emerged that the plane had been provided by Aeris Aviation, which is owned by the heavy metal rocker.

On Friday morning the loggerhead turtle was taken on board the aircraft, which has been used to fly stars including footballers David Beckham and John Terry, and transferred to a rehabilitation centre in Gran Canaria. It is not known whether Mr Dickinson was the pilot.

Broadcasters from BBC TV programme The One Show were on the scene on Friday morning filming Terri’s journey and the feature will be aired in the coming days.
