More than 100 people will have left their jobs within the States of Jersey by the end of 2016 as part of the Voluntary Release Scheme launched last year, which it is claimed will save the government up to £4 million a year in staff costs.
Out of the 329 voluntary redundancies applied for since the scheme was launched last year, 129 were considered and 101 accepted by a States panel. A total of 67 staff left in 2015 and a further 34 will go by the end of the year.
The scheme is part of a States drive to cut public sector spending on staff by £70 million over the next four years, as approved in the Medium Term Financial Plan last October. Further programmes are planned, with a further £16 million set aside for similar projects in 2016.
