The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, launched the assault in the pair’s school playground by punching his target from behind and hurling him to the ground.

As the attack continued the boy kicked and stamped on his victim while he was on the floor – causing bruising to several parts of his body and bumps to his head.

And when the victim found his feet and ran into the school building, his attacker chased after him before being stopped by staff.

The boy, who pleaded guilty to grave and criminal assault, was sentenced to nine months probation by the Youth Court on Tuesday.
