At present, mobile phone calls made to numbers beginning with an 0800, 0808 or 116 prefix cost 25p a minute from a JT hand-set if the call is made outside the quota of ‘free minutes’ allocated under a customer’s plan.

From next year, users will be able to contact charity and support organisations which use freephone numbers, such as the Samaritans, Childline and Crimestoppers, without the fear that they may be adding to their phone bill.
