ATF Fuels has scrapped its independent supply model and will instead join Jersey’s consolidated fuel infrastructure — a move that will also see the company drop its greener fuel options in the short term.

The fuel importer confirmed yesterday that it will now source fuel through La Collette Terminal, aligning itself with the same supply system used by other providers on the Island.

The decision marks the end of ATF’s decade-long effort to operate outside the Island’s traditional fuel network after it entered the Jersey market in 2014.

After what it called a “comprehensive review of its operations”, the company has opted to abandon its standalone supply chain in favour of the shared infrastructure at La Collette following an increase in supply chain costs and “additional premiums associated with supplying renewable fuels”.

“These factors led to the decision to move to a lower-cost supply chain, rather than passing unavoidable cost increases onto customers,” the company said.

ATF will therefore no longer be able to supply E10 petrol or B7 diesel at its forecourts “in the short term”.

These fuels — which contain renewable components and are widely seen as more environmentally friendly — had formed part of ATF’s offering in recent years.

In 2021, the firm called on the government to introduce E10 petrol to cut emissions before introducing the fuel as standard at forecourts later that year.

But now, by moving into the Island’s centralised system, the company will instead supply fuel “to the same specifications currently sold by other fuel providers”.

ATF Fuels director Jonathan Best described the new arrangement as “a prudent and forward-looking step”.

“While ATF has continued to offer consistently competitive pricing, we are concerned that without adapting our supply chain now, we would not be able to continue delivering the outcomes Jersey motorists and heating oil customers have benefited from over the last ten years,” he said.

“This decision has therefore been taken to safeguard our long-standing commitment to the Island.”

Mr Best added: “This structure provides ATF with appropriate operational involvement and oversight, strengthens our independence, and supports effective cost control within the supply chain.”
