Eleven awards were presented at the ceremony, which aims to recognise quality and excellence within the Island’s construction industry.

Among the winners announced at the event held at the Hotel de France was AAL Recycling, which won the Villeroy & Boch Project of the Year up to £1 million for its work in returning the Plémont headland to nature, after the National Trust for Jersey bought the site jointly with the States last year.

AAL Recycling removed 15,000 tonnes of asbestos, concrete, metal, fixtures and fittings as well as granite from the former holiday camp site with more than 75 per cent of the material being recycled within the community and used on the Trust’s restoration projects.

And more than 7,000 tonnes of soil was taken from La Collette Recycling Park – which is run by AAL – to restore the land on the site.

Jersey Electricity’s Normandie 3 undersea power cable project won the Benest and Syvret Project of the Year over £1 million award.

The firm laid a third interconnector to Normandy, in partnership with Guernsey Electricity, as part of the Channel Islands Electricity Grid, to secure imported supplies of electricity from France.

And ROK Construction won the Comprop Business of the Year Award while its director, Robert Matthews, was awarded the Hepburns Industry Achiever of the Year Award for providing the stewardship that enabled the firm to grow successfully throughout the recession.

David Morris, chairman of the Jersey Construction Council Awards 2015, said: ‘There was an outstanding array of winners and nominees on show.

‘The industry has felt the impact of the recent economic downturn but has responded well by ensuring that we become renowned for delivering both excellence in our work and high standards of customer service.’

He added: ‘As an industry, we are keen that people see construction as a varied and fulfilling career option’.
