The member of staff, who has not been named, has been suspended by the school.

In a statement the force confirmed that they have launched a criminal investigation into the teacher but said they could not release any more details.

The member of staff has since been released on police bail.

The school confirmed the teacher had been suspended but stressed that their actions did ‘not imply any assumption that the staff member is guilty’.

Their statement read: ‘Beaulieu School has confirmed that a member of staff has been suspended following an arrest to allow for a police investigation to take place in relation to an alleged assault.

‘This is not a disciplinary sanction at this time and our action does not imply any assumption that the staff member is guilty of any misconduct, but the suspension was a necessary step whilst the school awaits the findings from the Police investigation and undertakes its own internal disciplinary investigation.

‘Beaulieu takes matters of this kind extremely seriously and the school is currently working hard to address the situation as quickly as possible, whilst ensuring that due process is adhered to.’

No further details have been released at this time.
