The driver of the red BMW 3 Series, who has not yet been named, crashed into a low granite wall on the Inner Road at Bel Royal at around 2.20 am – narrowly missing an electricity distribution box and oil tank.
This morning the man was in a stable condition in the Hospital’s intensive care unit.
No other vehicles were involved and no one else was injured.
The emergency services were called to the scene after a nearby resident dialled 999 when she heard a loud bang close to her home.
Fire and Rescue crews and ambulance staff worked for around 30 minutes to free the man from the car before he was taken to Hospital where the Accident and Emergency Department’s specialist trauma team were on standby.

The Inner Road outside Bel Royal Motors, near the junction with Victoria Avenue, was closed for more than four hours as crime scene investigators carried out inspections and Fire and Rescue officers made the area safe.
It was re-opened at around 6.50 am.
An employee who works for a business close to the crash site said there was ‘considerable damage’ to the wall.
The police say the vehicle had been travelling from town towards Bel Royal when the accident happened.
They are now appealing to anyone who may have seen the car before the accident to contact them on 612612 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
