The price of AvanchiCard pay-as-you-go passes will be frozen at £1.20 and £1.70 depending on the journey length, while trips using AvanchiStudent card will continue to cost 70p.

However, the move will also see occasional bus users and visitors penalised as the cost of paying by cash increases by 10p per journey.

The company said that the change was ‘part of its ongoing commitment to ensure that the Island’s bus service remains a great value alternative to the car’.

The cost of using the bus for older people who hold concessionary travel cards will not increase.
