A series of storms have struck the Island in recent weeks and the poor weather is not expected to improve until the end of the week.

Gale force winds are expected to begin this evening and continue to build moving into New Year’s Day before beginning to ease on Thursday and Friday.

John Searson, duty forecaster at the Met Office, said: ‘On New Year’s Day we are likely to have gale force conditions, possibly even severe gale force winds at times.

‘We are not anticipating it to be as strong as the storm on 23 December, but it should certainly be strong enough to cause some disruption and bring some trees down.’
