Ferries have been cancelled, flights disrupted and a large fir tree came down on Route Orange this afternoon because of the high winds.
Islanders are being advised by Jersey Fire and Rescue to remain indoors this evening, if at all possible.
A severe weather warning for today was issued by the Jersey Met Office early this morning.
Met officer Peter Munns said that winds were expected to increase during the day, peaking at severe gale Force 9 tonight with gusts to 80mph, perhaps storm Force 10 at times.
‘High winds combined with heavy rain will cause disruption with falling trees and structural damage,’ he added.
The severe weather caused the cancellation of all fast-ferry services to and from the UK.
The Commodore Clipper slow boat, which was due to leave at 9.10 pm will now not depart Jersey until 10 am tomorrow, leaving passengers facing most of Christmas Eve at sea. For more information: Click here
