The winners of the Parish in Bloom competition are entered automatically into the national competition, but too few entries this year meant that the parish event did not take place.
There will therefore be no Jersey participants in next year’s national Britain in Bloom for the first time in a number of years.
A minimum of six parishes are required for the Parish in Bloom competition, but only five signed up. This was not enough to secure the funding from Jersey Tourism required to bring the Royal Horticultural Society judges to the Island.
In this year’s national competition, St Helier won gold and St Brelade won a silver gilt and a special horticultural achievement and environmental responsibility.
