Dolan Hotels has teamed up with four of the Island’s secondary schools to give students more practical experience in areas such as hospitality, catering, tourism and business.

Le Rocquier, Les Quennevais, Grainville and Haute Vallée schools will each be paired with one of Dolan’s four establishments – Hotel Cristina, The Somerville Hotel, The Golden Sands and the Merchant House Brasserie at the Jersey Museum.

Pupils in year 10 and 11 will be given the chance to go into the hotels as part of the school curriculum and work with the industry professionals, who will also visit the schools to teach the children.

Helen Frost, a teacher at Les Quennevais School, said: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to receive relevant, hands-on experience from the professionals. We have 40 students in Years ten and 11 studying hospitality and catering – all keen to learn new skills in customer service, food service and restaurant profitability.’

Student from Les Quennevais School visited the Golden Sands Hotel yesterday for a tour (visiting on Thursday 16).

Andrew Shrimpton, director of Dolan Hotels, said that the company wanted to give students a real insight into the hospitality industry and the variety of careers it could offer.

‘We are trying to showcase our industry and we want to show the students what a rewarding career it can be and that there are many different avenues that you can go into in the hospitality industry,’ he said.
