Dr Glyn Young, from Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, had raised concerns for the birds – the only nesting pair in the Island – which had been nesting in the area and had not been seen since the furze fire.
The cirl buntings, a small bird which had been thought to be extinct in Jersey until the pair settled in the area last year, were seen nearby on Wednesday along with a young chick.
Two young teenagers have admitted responsibility for lighting the fire and
have been given ‘strong words of advice’ by the Police.
