Senator Philip Ozouf, writing on his personal blog, said that the States could not abandon reform, particularly in the light of the forthcoming election.

He said: ‘The current distribution of deputorial seats, unchanged from 1947, is unfair. It is wrong that some people have four votes when others have one.’

The former St Helier Deputy has also acknowledged that St Helier electors would have been disadvantaged compared to country parishes under Option B.

‘I will propose a compromise designed to bring both sides together, respecting the wishes of the vast majority of Island voters who wanted B, but also respecting the concern of St Helier voters who voted against B,’ he said.
