Simon Crowcroft will ask Members to support his proposals to make the States pay rates on its properties across Jersey. He estimates that the move would cost the Treasury around £1.84 million a year and wants the States to start paying from next year.
In his published comments in response to the proposition, Treasury Minister Philip Ozouf says that he ‘broadly supports’ the Constable, but also points out that the parish of St Helier has been the principal beneficiary of States funding for a variety of schemes, including the development of a town park.
He adds: ‘In a time of financial and economic difficulty, the priorities for the Council of Ministers, and the allocation of funding, is to secure economic growth, create jobs and support front line services such as health.’
