Just days after parish Constable Dan Murphy reacted angrily to the extension project, which will cost more than £100,000, people voiced their anger about the amount of money being spent and questioned its purpose at a public meeting.

As part of the proposal, traffic calming measures and a small roundabout at the junction of Rue à Don and Rue de la Ville ès Renaud – by the Checkers Xpress forecourt – will be built.

Part of Rue à Don will also be narrowed and a road cycle path from the junction up to Grouville Primary School will be laid. The extension means there will be a cycle track from Gorey Harbour to the school.

But at the parish hall meeting, one parishioner, who lives 100 yards from the proposed roundabout but did not want to be named, said: ‘It is totally unrealistic, excessive and a complete waste of money,’ he said.
