According to the Scrutiny panel reviewing the plans – which were due to be officially lodged with the States today – the proposals take into account population trends identified in the 2001 Census as the latest figures were not yet available.

However, last year’s Census shows that in the past ten years Jersey’s population has soared by ten per cent.

Chairman of the Health, Social Security and Housing Scrutiny panel, Deputy Kristina Moore, said the Health department’s plans, which are contained in the white paper ‘Caring For Each Other, Caring For Ourselves’, had not projected the current population of almost 98,000 until 2040.
