JT customers can now take their phone number with them if they switch to Coop Mobile after the completion of engineering works.
Last month, the supermarket accused JT of dragging its heels over allowing customers to ‘port’ their existing mobile number over to the society’s newly launched network.
However, taxpayer-owned JT argued that number porting from JT to Coop Mobile was part of a wider programme, which includes removing “high risk” Chinese-made equipment, so could not take place until May.
The new entrant made a complaint to the competition regulator, which resulted in the date when number porting to the Coop’s network can begin being brought forward by more than six weeks.
That date was yesterday [17 March], promoting Mark Cox, Chief Executive Officer of the Channel Islands Cooperative, to say: “This is a big day for our members and consumers. Keeping your number might sound small, but it makes a big difference when you’re thinking about switching.
“We are excited to welcome new customers to Coop Mobile and give more people the chance to benefit from our flexible, contract free plans, backed by a business that puts members first.”
