And they believe that this year’s field could be bigger than ever for the race on Sunday 7 October.
So far 530 runners – including 100 UK police officers who are travelling over to compete – have signed up for the run, with several expected to run times of less than 2 hr 30 min. The current records stand at 2.29.03 for men and 2.53.36 for women.
Athletes are also coming from Ireland, France, Sweden, Holland, Kenya and Australia.
In addition to the individual runners of the full distance, 200 teams have so far registered to take part in the Mourant Ozannes Relay Race – 100 more than at the equivalent time last year.
