Firefighters were called to the blaze in the car park next to the football pitch at Grainville just after midnight by members of the public and had to use breathing apparatus and two high-pressure hoses to bring it under control.
The van, which is believed to have rolled across the car park after its handbrake failed before the Fire Service arrived, contained a large amount of painting and decorating materials, some of which exploded.
