From Pierre Horsfall.

CONGRATULATIONS on your leading article regarding the erection of high tech masts on the Ecréhous and the Minquiers reefs (JEP, 23 June).

These reefs are two remarkable and very special places and the main thing that makes them special and almost unique is that modern life and technology has passed them by.

Any modern technological encroachment, no matter how small, will break that spell forever.

Once this happens more will follow, it invariably does, and the irreversible loss lasts for ever.

I wish Mr Mitchell and his supporters every success in their campaign to keep Jersey’s offshore reefs untainted by modern technological intrusions.

I hope that the authorities can find that inner feeling for what is still precious in this modern world of technology and look elsewhere, if anywhere at all.
