Some of the 40 passengers on flight ATR42 from Guernsey – none of whom was hurt – said that they feared for their lives after hearing a loud bang and smelling burning inside the plane.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch of the Civil Aviation Authority is now investigating what caused the left side of the landing gear to collapse underneath the plane, which veered down the runway on one wing.
The Airport was closed for seven hours and stayed open late on Saturday to clear some of the backlog.
