The blunder happened at around 1 pm when workmen who were working on upgrading facilities within the General Hospital accidently damaged a pipe which supplies oxygen to the building.
The supply was interrupted for around two hours and a number of patients had an anxious wait to see if operations they were due to undergo would go ahead.
In the end all scheduled procedures did go ahead, although later than planned.
