Liam MacDonald, who suffers from ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency (OTCD), was given the all-clear by doctors to fly home after successfully undergoing a stem cell transplant.
His mother, Fiona, who lives in St Helier, said that Liam was only the second child with the disease at Evelina Children’s Hospital to survive the treatment, which has been available since 2003. Seven others have died.
He is now awaiting a liver transplant in his next battle against the rare condition, which affects around one in 80,000 people.
