Guernsey and Jersey are attempting through a Judicial Review to overturn a HM Treasury decision to stop the islands benefitting from a VAT exemption, known as low value consignment relief, which is available to all non-EU states.

He warned that if the islands lost the case they might lose the trade which would cause ‘massive unemployment and consequences for both islands’.
