Last October Richard Billington (71) and his wife Adèle (73) told the Jersey Evening Post how they no longer felt safe in their own home after a thief had broken in while they were out and stolen tens of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery.
Overcome with guilt after reading the story, 47-year-old Carl James Murphy confessed and helped police to recover many of the items.
Yesterday the Liverpool-born Murphy was jailed for three years by the Royal Court for the break-in and entry at the Billingtons’ St Martin home on 18 October.
