Gill Rattle said that older people needed more help in getting into States and public buildings and that the younger generation require assistance to live independent lives. She also said that the surface of Island pavements was uneven and that more could be done to help people cross the road or catch a bus.
Her comments follow a special training week, during which a number of professionals were taught rehabilitation skills for the visually impaired for the first time in the Island.
To mark its 125th anniversary, the Jersey Blind Society has funded the eight-month training programme, and Mrs Rattle said that Health were extremely grateful for the £12,500 donation.
